Bible Term: Omnipotent

Omni, means “all,” while potent means “possessing strength, powerful, and having great control or authority.” Therefore, omnipotent means to have unlimited, universal power and authority. God is omnipotent.

A synonym for omnipotent is almighty; the noun form of omnipotent is omnipotence.

In addition to being omnipotent, God is also omnipresent and omniscient.

Key verse about omnipotent: “And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” (Revelation 19:6, NKJV).

A lifelong student of the Bible, Peter DeHaan, PhD, wrote the 1,000-page website ABibleADay.com to encourage people to explore the Bible. His main blog and many books urge Christians to push past the status quo and reconsider how they practice their faith in every area of their lives.
